Worthy winners of Paton Ambrose Memorial

February 16, 2018

Paton ambrose nett winners (l-r) Brian Davis, Matt Pitt, John Morris and Shane Morriss.

THE feature event at Heathcote Golf Club on Saturday was the Jean and Kevin Paton Ambrose Memorial.

The club’s generous sponsors, Ben Paton on behalf of the Paton family, Matt Pitt of Social Golf Australia and Drummonds Golf, provided a range of prizes from vouchers, clubs and golf equipment to wine.

The scene was set for the team of Shane Morris, John Morris, Brian Davis and Matt Pitt to engrave their names on the memorial plaque.

The big hitting bakers and co. battered the course into submission with their 53 and 3/4 to be clear winners in the nett event from David Clouston, Gerard Ellis, Adrian Goudie and Mick Tobin’s 56 and a half.

David, Gerard, Adrian and Mick also won the best gross event with 61 from ‘Team Captain’s’ (Larry Maxwell, Adrian King, Phil Coleman and Steve Ryan’s) 63 on a countback.

The ‘morning crew’ of Stephen and Dawn Hudson and Greg and Amanda Long were best in the mixed nett with 57.

The ‘girl-power’ team comprising Cathy Shaddock, Jan Case, June Roberts and Daphne Hall scored 70 to be the nett winners of the ladies event.

Wayne Glatz pounded the ball down the 11th hole to win the men’s longest drive with Dawn Hudson hitting the best ladies drive.

Two excellent shots on the 18th hole won Allan Jenes and Regina Driver their respective NTPs.

Many thanks to men’s captain Larry Maxwell and ladies captain Dot Trott for their tireless work in both organising and managing this very successful event.

Great work also by the barbecue men in both their food production and entertainment.

Ian and Willie demonstrated to onlookers how, even after golf was finished for the day, one could still set the course on fire.

Thursday February 8:

Fourteen men played in both the morning and afternoon on another scorching day. Willie Laird matched the weather with a hot round of 86-19-67 while ball winners were Adrian King 68 nett, Martin Sims 69, Kris Mueck 70 and David Baldock 71. The 18th hole NTP went to Kris Mueck and birdies on that same hole were scored by both Kris and Adrian King.

Wednesday February 7:

Eleven ladies competed in the Monthly Medal stroke and Summer Cup round on a course playing at its fullest length in the conditions. Lynne Fouracre continued her consistently good form to post another winning score of 103-29-74 and Regina Driver’s improved form secured second place for her with 101-24-77 on a countback from Jan Case on 120-43-77. Regina scooped the pool in the NTPs with great shots on both the 8th and 18th holes while Amanda Long birdied the 13th.
