HEATHCOTE Bowling Club’s division three team travelled to North Bendigo on Saturday hoping for a win but instead suffered an unexpected nine-shot loss.
The division six team took on South Bendigo at Heathcote, needing a win, but unfortunately went down by 13 shots.
Division three: Heathcote 82 lost to North Bendigo 91.

John McGillivray 23 defeated R Finch 14

Greg Speirs’ team started well but then struggled and by the 13th end trailed by 11 shots. Greg’s team fought back winning nine of the last 12 ends but ultimately lost by four shots.
John McGillivray’s team had an even start with scores level on the 11th, 13th and 15th ends. John’s team then took control, losing only 3 more ends to score a nine-shot victory over their rivals.
Bill Gardiner’s team also had an even start with scores level on 6th end. Bills team were in front by just a shot after 13 ends were played. The game remained close but Bill’s team came up trumps winning the last end to record a single shot victory.
Brian Taylor’s team started slowly and trailed by 12 shots by the 15th end. Despite Brian’s team’s best efforts the team were only able to win four more ends and went down by 15 shots overall.

Chris Cail’s team won the first five ends but then struggled and trailed by 11 shots after 16 ends. Despite winning five of the last nine ends, Chris’ team went down by 10 shots.
Basil Kapoulitsa’s team started showily and trailed by four shots by the 13th end. Basil’s team then took control but lost the last end to finish even with the opposing team.
Eileen O’Brien’s team lost the first three ends and trailed by five shots after 13 ends. Eileen’s team fought back and were going well but just like Basil’s team, they lost the final end, resulting in another tie.
Denise Andersons team started beautifully, winning four of the first five ends, and leading by four shots after 14 ends. Regrettably, Denise’s team only managed to win three more ends and lost by three shots overall.

Heathcote’s division two ladies defeated White Hills by two shots in a thriller to keep Heathcote’s slim chances of a final appearance alive.

Chris Cail’s team started well and led by eight shots after 10 ends. Chris’ team then struggled, losing the next eight ends, but fortunately the team fought back and held on to win by three shots.
Eileen O’Brien’s team made a good start and were in the lead by six shots after eight ends. By the 21st end they led by 12 shots and despite losing the final four ends they went on to record a two-shot win.
Denise Andersons team also started well and led by seven shots after six ends. By the 14th end, Denise’s team led by nine shots, however the team was only able to win three ends after that and went down by three shots.

On Wednesday, in cool and windy conditions,16 players enjoyed three games of pairs. None of the teams were able to win all three games so the winners were decided on the points system, the honours going to Brian Taylor (s) and Ilona Hutterer (two wins, one draw, 40 points, +5 shots). Runners-up were Chris Cail (s) and Kelvin Hamilton (two wins, 1 draw, 37 points, +13 shots). The jackpot was not won and will be $200 today.
