FOOTBALL cult figure Billy Brownless was a special guest at the Pyalong Cricket Club last week as he entertained a crowd of club members and locals.
Brownless often goes around the local community sporting clubs in the role of guest speaker — talking all things sport and about his life.
“Bill was brilliant, he started at about 8 o’clock and didn’t leave until about 11pm mate, so he was happy to stay around which was fantastic,” Mark Ruddick from the Pyalong Cricket Club said.
Pyalong has hosted a few of these nights with cricket stars David Boon and Jeff Thompson making visits to the club over the last two years, but Mr Ruddick said Bill may have topped them all.
“I think Bill was the best of the lot — he really put on a show he told some stories and then did a bit of question and answer.”
Ruddick said that the night didn’t draw as many people as he would have liked but was happy with the spectacle that those in attendance were treated to.
“We got 52 people there. I probably would’ve liked to have got around 70-odd but that’s all right, it was a great night anyway. We put it on for the community and I know everyone who went really appreciated it.
“The best thing was he stayed around for photos with the kids and just to have a chat with people so we were really happy with him.”
Mr Ruddick thanked Gaffney’s Bakery for supplying hot pies on the night.
