Division three surges to top

Heathcote Bowling Club's division three team is sitting on top of the ladder.

HEATHCOTE Bowling Club’s division three team travelled to Bendigo on Saturday and recorded another big win to secure top spot on the ladder.

Division 3: Heathcote 112 defeated Bendigo 83.

John McGillivray 20 lost to J Beecham 27; Greg Speirs 26 defeated B Craig 24; Bill Gardiner 35 defeated J Belt 23; Brian Taylor 31 defeated J Trickey 9.

John McGillivray’s team started well, scoring six shots on the third end. However the team then struggled to trail by 10 shots after 15 ends. Despite winning the next four ends, John’s team lost the last end to lose by seven shots.

Greg Speirs team started slowly, losing the first three ends and was down by seven shots by the 13th end. Greg’s team then lifted to hit the front on the 22nd end and scored two shots on the last end to win by two shots.

Bill Gardiner’s team won the first two ends and led by a shot after nine ends. Bill’s team then took control winning 10 more ends to record a 2 shot win.

Brian Taylor’s team made a flying start, winning the first seven ends to lead by 13 shots. Brian’s team maintained the pressure, losing only nine ends to have a big 22 shot win.

■ HEATHCOTE’S division six team struggled again, going down to South Bendigo by 27 shots.

Division 6: Heathcote 79 lost to South Bendigo 106.

Basil Kapoulitsa 24 defeated K Presley 23; Denise Anderson 17 lost to D Campbell 25; Eileen O’Brien 20 lost to B Mott 27; Rae Craig 18 lost to R Roberts 31.

Basil Kapoulitsas team started poorly and was down by 12 shots after seven ends. Fortunately, Basil’s team won the next four ends to hit the front and held on to win by a shot.

Denise Anderson’s team made an even start with only two shots the difference after 18 ends. Denise’s team then struggled though, winning only two more ends to go down by eight shots.

Eileen O’Brien’s team also made an even start with scores level on the 13th end. There was only one shot the difference after 19 ends but Eileen’s team lost four of the next six ends to go down by seven shots.

Rae Craig’s team started slowly to be down by 16 shots by the 12th end. Rae’s team won the next six ends but then lost six of the last eight ends to be defeated by 13 shots.

Chis Cail’s team started well but on the 9th end lost eight shots. Chris’s team recovered to outplay Bendigo East and won the last end, resulting in a win by nine shots.

Eileen O’Brien’s team made an even start but then struggled to trail by seven shots after 14 ends. Despite winning the last three ends Eileen’s team went down by nine shots.

Denise Anderson’s team made a slow start and by the 14th end was down by 13 shots. Denise’s team lifted and won the last four ends to go down by only five shots.

Tuesday Night Social Teams:

Sides or players wishing to play the Tuesday Night Social Pennant please contact Peter Cunningham on 0418 304 259. The first round of pennant will commence on Tuesday, November 14 at 7pm.

Social Bowls:

On Wednesday, in warm and windy conditions, 19 players enjoyed three games of pairs and triples.

No team managed to win all three games, with the winners being Eileen O’Brien (s) and Ellis Knight (two wins, one draw, 38 points, +13 shots).

The runners-up were Peter Cunningham (s) and Paul Mason (two wins, 34 points, +11 shots) from Greg Speirs (s) and Rod Hanson (two wins, 33 points, +15 shots).

The jackpot was not won a and will be $200 on Wednesday, November 1.
