Numbers grow for bowls

Heathcote lawn bowlers are enjoying the start of their season.

WITH pennant season fast approaching and the onset of fine and warm weather, good numbers have continued to play social bowls at Heathcote on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

On Wednesday 20 bowlers played three games of pairs. Only one team won the three games and the winners were Grant Baker (s) and evergreen Ellis Knight (three wins, 44 points, +9 shots).

Runners-up were Denise Anderson (s) and Basil Kapoulitsa (two wins, one draw, 40 points, +15 shots) from Sharon Arnold (s) and Les Morante (two wins, 33 points, +19 shots). The jackpot was not won.

On Saturday in fine and warm conditions, 21 players enjoyed three games of pairs and triples.

In a close finish the winners were Peter Cunningham (s) and Brett Mathieson (three wins, 46 points, +21 shots) from Eileen O’Brien (s) and Dot Cutajar (three wins, 45 points, +14 shots).

The jackpot was not won and will be $200 today.

Ladies Tournament.

On September 29, the Ladies Invitation Fours Tournament was contested by 12 teams who played three games of 10 ends. Visiting teams and players came from VRI, Bendigo East, Seymour, Kangaroo Flat, Castlemaine, Broadford, South Bendigo, White Hills, Eaglehawk and Strathfieldsaye.

At the end the day, two teams had won their three games and on the points system the winners from VRI were A. Ellett (s), B. Hawkins, P. Milburn and J. Hawkins (three wins, 138 points, +17 shots).

Runners-up from Bendigo East were H.Clough (s), C. Gallop, R. Cail and S. Lord (three wins, 138 points, +12 shots).

Club barbecue

Members please note that the first of the club barbecues start tomorrow night following pennant practice.

Players and new bowlers are welcome to enable selectors to choose the the pennant teams for the following week.
