Roberts sizzles

October 12, 2017

June Roberts (right) had a top day on the greens at Heathcote Golf Club on Saturday.

A LOVELY day greeted nine ladies at Heathcote Golf Club on Saturday and while many of them played well the sun shone brightest on June Roberts.

June’s 40 points included a demolition of the second nine culminating in a superb tee shot on the 18th for an easy birdie. June also took out the NTP, superpin and a big five points. Lovely golfing, June!

Sue Green’s 37 points secured her the runners-up position while Joyce Safstrom’s 36 points earned her second runner-up on a countback from Helen Carlin (again). Jan Case won NTP on the 8th.

Mitchell Hogg played well for a well-earned win in division one. Terry Shiels had another success in division two, also with 36 points.

Ball winners were: Stephen Hudson 35, Phil Coleman 34, Adrian King 34 and Adrian Goudie 34.

NTPs were won by: Adrian King (13th), Ian Frost (A grade 18th), Stephen Hudson (B grade 18th) and Terry Shiels (C grade 18th).

Birdie balls went to Kent Davies (2nd), Ian Frost (8th) and a par ball to Terry Shiels (18th).

A round of the men’s singles knockout was played with Alan Stobaus winning 1-up from David Clouston. The remaining matches of the men’s pairs and singles will be played in the very near future.

The NAGA award has been reinstated by order of the new captain, Lawrence Jonathon Maxwell.

Members not wishing to receive this honour should inform Lawrence prior to presentations.

A fitting finale to the day’s events was the sight of Captain Maxwell both winning and donning the orange jacket by virtue of his 27 points. A ladies NAGA award is also on the cards.

The men played a stableford competition on Thursday and the consistent Paul Rolfe was best in division one on 38 points while Willie Laird’s imposing 41 points put paid to the division two opposition.

Balls were thrown to Martin Sims, Tony Hunter, John Blundell, Paul Spedding, Terry Shiels, Craig Hough, John Gastin and Alan Healy.

NTP and superpin went to Paul Spedding; birdies went to David Morris (2nd) and Brian Davis (16th); with par balls to Martin Sims and Willie Laird.

Seven ladies played a stableford event on Wednesday with Dot McGillivray continuing her good golfing form with a winning score of 38 points.

Jan Case took 2nd place with 35 on a countback from Helen Carlin. Dot also had the closest shot on the 18th hole.

It was lovely to see Regina Driver on the course posting a very creditable 34 points considering her four months absence from golf. Welcome back Regina!
