ON Wednesday, nine ladies competed in Heathcote Golf Club’s monthly medal event carried over from the previous week.
Daphne Hall implemented her considerable putting skills to full effect, taking out the medal with 112-38-74 in addition to the Grace Plane putting with only 26 strokes on the manicured grass.
Runner-up was Lynne Fouracre 107-31-76 followed by Doreen Shiele on 110-34-76. It was lovely to see Doreen back playing well in the 18-hole arena. NTPs went to Carol Stuart (8th) and Lynne Fouracre (18th hole 2nd shot).
Number 13 was unlucky weather-wise but 21 brave men still ventured out for the stableford event on Thursday.
Mitchell Hogg was victorious, posting a fine score of 38 points with Adrian Goudie on 37 points a close second on a countback. Ball winners were: David Morris 37, Son Quach 36 and Greg Long 34. Larry Maxwell birdied the 18th hole.
On Saturday, nine ladies played a stableford competition with Tristen Wearne (34 points) back in the winner’s circle with Jan Case second on 33 points. Cathy Shaddock won a ball with 27 points.
The men’s GOTY stableford attracted 21 starters and the consistent Tom Russell chalked up a win in A and B grade with 36 points. Murray Green was the C grade winner posting 34 points.
Ball winners were: Larry Maxwell 35, Adrian King 33, Phil Coleman 33, Ron Blachford 32 and Laurie Mueck 32. Ian Furneaux and Greg Long shared the encouragement award with 26 points apiece. NTPs went to Murray Green (13th) and Adrian King was the 18th hole B grade and superpin winner. Birdie balls went to Mitchell Hogg (8th), Larry Maxwell (13th), Adrian King (18th) and a par ball to John Dobie.
Vale Ray Campbell
A link with Heathcote’s golfing past was lost on Friday with the passing of Ray Campbell aged 93 years. He is remembered as a very good golfer and long-time member of the club. Well played and well lived Ray.
