ON Wednesday in fine and cool conditions, 20 bowlers played three games of pairs at Heathcote Bowling Club.
Only one team won each of the three games and that was the winning team of Smokey Dawson (s) and Ellis Knight (three wins, 44 points, +17 shots).
The team finishing in the runners-up position consisted of Greg Speirs (s) and Les Morante (two wins, 35 points, +17 shots), while Peter Cunningham (s) and Ian Ross teamed up (two wins, 29 points, +15 shots) to finish third. The jackpot was not won.
The frosty start on Saturday gave way to blue skies for the afternoon, although the cool temperatures remained.
A total of 21 players enjoyed three games of pairs and triples on the Heathcote greens.
The winners were Sharon Arnold (s) and Basil Kapoulitsa (3 wins, 44 points, +25 shots). Runners-up were Brian Taylor (s) and Judy McDonald (three wins, one draw, +12 shots), while Paul Mason (s) and Dinah Finn (2 wins, 1 draw, 38 points, +12 shots) finished third. The jackpot was not won and will be $115 today.
Winter Triples Tournament:
On Sunday, the FNG Group sponsored Winter Triples Tournament was contested by 24 teams.
Despite a very cool and frosty start, players and teams from Diamond Creek, Drysdale, Colbinabbin, Rich River, Rochester, Elmore, Seymour, Stanhope, Tongala and Whittlesea played four games of 10 ends in near perfect conditions after lunch.
Only two teams won all four games and on the points system the team from Tongala were pronounced the winners — the team consisting of Garth Wiffen (s), Kel Wiffen and Loretta Wiffen (four wins, 26 points).
The team from Stanhope were runners-up, comprising Butch Stokes (s), Jenni Crilly and Shane Walsh (four wins, +24 points).
The best first game winner was Greg Fitzpatrick (Stanhope); the best second game winner was Richard Buckle (Kyneton). The best third game winner was Brian Williams (Stanhope) and best fourth game winner was Bill Gardiner (Heathcote).
