IT WAS the match of the season for Heathcote’s under 12 footballers against ladder-leader Kyneton — and what a nail-biter it was.
The Saints managed to completely lock the ball in to their forward 50 for the entire first quarter, scoring two points with the big sticks proving elusive.
Tanika Cook, Ryan Foster and Thomas Johnson were relentless all quarter.
Lexi Jorgenson-Neave pounced immediately on the ball in the forward line leaving her player to snap a magical “Eddie Betts” style goal, her first for her career of junior footy.
It was all Kyneton in the third but the backline remained disciplined only conceding the one point.
Damon Ryan-May, Jesse Bruce, Brayden Ferguson and James Pringle consistently put their bodies on the line.
Callum Devine, Brooke Maiden and Nik Hansson were a great trio of trouble for their Kyneton opponents.
With a draw on the scoreboard, the final quarter was set to be a thriller.
Tommy Johnson had the crowd roaring snapping a great goal early.
Taylor Maiden and Tommy read the play well switching between defence to attack, frustrating the Tigers enough to keep them scoreless for the remainder.
It was a great win in the end for the Saints with the entire team contributing.
Next week the Juniors take on third-placed Quarry Hill at home to prelude the under 17 game. First bounce is at 9am. Go Saints!
